From Incentive to Identity

A year ago, Umm Al Quwain University was on Ajman's streets talking about price,  offering up to 70 percent off tuition across hoarding, uni-pole, and digital screen placements during peak enrollment season. Its newest campaign, visible across DXB on a hoarding and a mega-com, drops the discount language entirely and replaces it with something more institutional: "مستقبلك يبدأ هنا" (Your future starts here).

From Incentive to Identity

The shift matters more than it might look at first glance. Discount-led messaging is a short-term acquisition tool, effective at driving enrollment spikes but limited in what it says about the institution itself. This campaign takes a different route. The hoarding leads with the university's building, its flags, and a red call-to-action strip announcing that admissions are open now. The mega-com extends that message across a wider stretch of road and adds a breakdown of UAQU's academic colleges: Computer Science, Business Administration, Mass Communication, and Law with Arts and Sciences.

Computer Science is the detail worth pausing on. UAQU received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to establish a College of Computer Science effective from the 2026/2027 academic year, offering bachelor's degrees in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence and Smart Systems. The timing is notable. UAQU now has something new and specific to say about its academic offering, while the campaign puts its colleges and fields of study much closer to the centre of the message.

The Computer Science approval is not the only recent academic development behind the campaign's institutional message. UAQU's Bachelor of Law program received international accreditation from AQAS in 2026, while its College of Mass Communication secured AQAS accreditation in 2024. Two of the four colleges named on the mega-com, in other words, are backed by international third-party accreditation, giving the university's message more substance than a tagline alone.

Reading the Format Choice

The hoarding and mega-com pairing reinforces the same logic. A hoarding rewards a longer look, useful for a campaign built around a building, a tagline, and a call to action. A mega-com, stretched horizontally along a road, is built for movement, better suited to a message that unfolds as the eye travels across it, landing on the list of colleges toward the far end of the frame.

Together, the two formats give UAQU room to communicate at different levels: a quick brand and admissions message at a glance, followed by more specific information for those with enough time to take in the wider creative.

A University Playing a Longer Game

Placed next to last year's discount-driven push, this campaign reads less like a seasonal enrollment ad and more like an attempt to build a more durable institutional identity in a UAE higher-education market where regional and international universities compete hard for the same pool of students.

Price promotions can help drive applications for a specific intake. A message built around academic colleges, a newly established Computer Science offering, and internationally accredited programs gives UAQU a different proposition to put into the OOH environment: not simply why enrol now, but what the university has to offer.

And that may be the more interesting shift here. The campaign does not need to compete on price when it can use the same roadside real estate to put the institution itself, its academic offering, and its latest developments in front of prospective students.
